Bio. Brom was born in London England, but grew up and worked for several years in Toronto. Graduating with an Honours BA from the University of Waterloo, Brom was employed as an educator for more than 30 years with the Waterloo Region District School Board. Primarily self-taught, he usually paints for self-enjoyment or produces works based on individual requests. Several of his paintings, on a variety of subject matter, have been exhibited and sold internationally such as in the Southwest US and the UK. At various times, he has worked extensively with wood crafts, stained glass and operated my own home renovation company. He is an avid reader and traveler, but always gravitates back to watercolour painting. He enjoys outdoor activities, particularly downhill skiing which is reflected in some of his paintings. In later years, he has embraced the digital age and all the wonders it has to offer.
Artist Statement. Visiting and photographing many incredible landscapes, I always gravitate to the unusual, the natural forms in nature that are the most unique. And I always ask the question. Wouldn’t these look even better under the eyes of an artist. In particular, a painter can control the light variables in a way a photo program like ‘Photoshop’ can’t. The watercolour experience can be quite intense and pleasurable. Some paintings appear almost mythological in quality through the strong use of colour, clear light contrasts and unusual viewpoints. The interaction between control and looseness of the medium is what makes the challenge so fascinating.

I Graduating with an Honours of Waterloo and a B. Ed from the University of Toronto, I became an educator for more than 30 years with the Waterloo Region District School Board. For most of my years, I have lived in Kitchener. At various times, I have tried my hand at wood crafts, stained glass and operated my own home renovation company. I am an avid reader and traveller, but I always fall back to watercolour painting. I enjoy outdoor activities, particularly downhill skiing which is reflected in some of my paintings.
